Westminster Abbey is the place where all of the royal family of England has been crowned since the year 1066. Burial for all the royalty is also here in the Abbey. Frequent organ recitals are held in Westminster Abbey, and it has beautiful acoustics.
Houses of Parliament and Big Ben Visitors are allowed to view the House of Lords and the House of Commons while in the city, and there are even tours during the high tourist season between June and August. History buffs will want to be certain to explore the Cabinet War Rooms. These were the hidden headquarters in the fight against the Germans in World War II.
Tower of London The Tower of London is the site where the crown jewels are located. This, of course, makes it a very popular tourist draw, so do get there quite early before the crowds come.
Buckingham Palace Tours of Buckingham Palace are only available in August and September, and the waiting list can be very long, so if you’d like to see inside, book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
Changing of the Guard The Changing of the Guard can be viewed daily at 11:30 a.m. from April till August, and on even numbered days during the remainder of the year. Also, check out the Royal Mews, which is the Queen’s stables, and you can see the beautiful and elaborate royal coaches and the horses there.
Other great sites around town are Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, British Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Soho, the London Eye and Piccadilly Circus.
